Language Revitalization

The Creator gave us our language and it is deeply rooted in ʔamakʔis Ktunaxa.

It connects us to each other, the land, all living things, our ancestors and future generations.

Ktunaxa is a language isolate, which means it is unique and not related to any other language in the world.

What is Language Revitalization?

Language revitalization is about bringing back languages that have been suppressed and nearly lost, and making them a part of daily life again.

It is most successful when dedicated and passionate language learners and teachers have the support of the community and people.

Our language programs,

  • support language classes
  • work with Elders
  • compile, coordinate and creates language resources
  • research linguistics

We envision an integrated language revitalization program with Ktunaxa First Nations and the TKL working together.
