Research & Engagement Requests

Are you seeking Ktunaxa input on your

  • Research project
  • Land acknowledgement
  • Expressing a place name or word in Ktunaxa
  • Developing opening remarks
  • or other Ktunaxa cultural / language knowledge?

There is a 3-step process we ask researchers to follow before reaching out to us.

1. Read ʔit̓qawxawiȼikimik: Everyone Holds This Belief Together

This document outlines the guiding principles for research and engagement within the Ktunaxa Nation.

2. Read Requests to TKL (Traditional Knowledge & Language Sector)

This document outlines what you can expect, and what is expected of you, when engaging with Elders and Knowledge Holders.

3A. If you are an organization looking to work with the Traditional Knowledge & Language Sector on interpretive work, please fill out the Interpretive Request form.

(i.e.: Ktunaxa participation for an event, language work, artistic consulting, place names and histories, relationship building with the Ktunaxa Nation)

3B. Or, if you are doing formal academic research, please go the Ktunaxa Research Synopsis Form.

Once you have read through these materials, please feel free to reach out to the TKL Research & Engagement Administrator, Smokii Sumac. You can find his contact information to the right on this page.

If you have additional questions, please contact Smokii Sumac, Research Request Administrator at Ktunaxa Nation Council
